Dentist Visits Galore

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Somewhat related.. this is my face when I try to push my lips together after the numbing needles at the dentist. It was too funny NOT to share. Anyway. So this month seemed to be official dentist visiting month. Brad and I found a dentist for both of us to go to together. Now that we actually have coverage it was a good time to get a lot of things fixed. Our first visit was just a cleaning for him and a checkup for me, and discovering that I had a lot of work to do on my teeth, even though I thought I had perfect teeth! (hah) Well I knew that there was at least one thing that needed to be looked at, but not as many as they found. Never skip dentist appointments! At the first visit, they asked me to fill out a card for a contest to guess how many candies in a jar there were on the reception desk. I entered and pretty much forgot about it.

Brad only had one problem tooth, but it was pretty bad. He had to go  back twice to get a root canal. (ouch!) I had 4 small fillings to take care of, one of them was a very sensitive tooth. My second visit was for 2 fillings, the sensitive tooth and another. It really hurt my sensitive tooth :( Even the Novocaine didn’t really help.. although the other tooth was fine and I didn’t feel a thing. I had a pretty bad experience that day, I hadn’t eaten much that day and after the treatment I almost fainted and then threw up in the parking lot. I was fine after some fresh air and water.

Today Brad and I both had our follow up visits. He got his root canal finished and covered up. He says the needles he got for the pain made it feel like he was punched in the face afterwards though. Today I went there terrified that I was going to have to go through the same pain, but I really had no reason to worry. I went in and they took me in almost right away. Then they numbed everything with 2 needles, waited a while, and then drilled away. I didn’t feel a thing this time which was awesome.  I was in and out of there in a flash.

Then I found out that I had actually won that contest guessing how many candies there were in the jar! The prize was a whole free turkey! I was really excited. They took my picture with the turkey and the dentist and everything! I didn’t get a copy but they said they might put it up on their facebook page which I’ll keep checking up on. I took my own picture of me with the turkey anyway, looking like a goofball :p And yes, if you remembered I don’t eat meat, then good for you! I’m having my family over for Christmas and they are definitely going to demand a turkey for Christmas dinner, so now I’m all set!

Happy Thanksgiving, USA! This will be my first American thanksgiving, and I’m very excited. I’ll of course be posting pictures of the delicious food we’ll be enjoying <3

Homemade Samosas

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

I’ve been falling behind in my posts! Not much exciting happening, hehe. I’ve had a lower appetite than normal lately, but now and then I still get the urge to cook. I bought the ingredients to make these neat sounding samosas that I have a recipe for in my veggie cook book. They were cashew coconut samosas, and they turned out to be delicious!

The starting ingredients, minus the dough I kneaded by hand a bit earlier which was at the fridge at this point.

The fried up mixture being put into individual dough squares

These were the ones that looked a little more like what samosas are *supposed* to look like.

Into the frying pot they go! This part terrified me. I hate frying things, and since we couldn’t find our deep fryer, I had to improvise.

This is how I protect myself from hot oil splashing back.

Golden goodness!

The delicious outcome with some dip I made! Yogurt, mint and cucumber.

They were delicious! Definitely a repeat.

You can find the recipe here. Hopefully the link works! It’s a link to a google book page, showing the page of my cookbook that this recipe came from.

I made the dough from scratch following this recipe.

A new addition

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

We got this table last weekend from Brad’s grandparents but I never posted this picture! It’s a beautiful picnic table that comfily seats 4 people. I spent almost all afternoon on it today learning to crochet. That.. is another story all on its own.

I’m still very surprised by the weather here though. In the afternoon, it’s still tshirt and jeans weather. I was able to sit outside in the sun in warm weather without a sweater or even socks for that matter. Still beautifully comfortable, it’s quite nice!

So that’s our new table, with a small pot of ivy that I put there as a temporary decoration until it grows everywhere.

Art Collaboration

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Alright so it’s not literally a drawing or anything, but I still think it’s beautiful :) My husband and I have made.. a baby!! S/he is 9 weeks old and kickin! We went to the ultrasound this morning. It was my first time to one, at least, for myself. I know I saw the ultrasounds of my younger brothers incubating, but this was my own first. It was so exciting, the baby.. er.. fetus, was moving around like crazy! Jumping around, seemingly dancing. Of course they’re not aware of these movements as they’re just spasms from the brain and developing nervous system, but it still looked like s/he was dancing to their own 170bpm heart rate! (holy wow that’s fast.)

Happy November!

If you see this layout all chopped up with colours that don’t belong, simply press refresh until it looks like it used to! I changed the layout back to the original one until the next holiday. I hope you guys enjoyed the Halloween themed stuff :) Next one will be a Christmas layout if I make one on time, haha.

Nothing much has happened since Halloween, mostly just been drawing more Stanley Brambles scenes. Been designing the boat in the book, which has been difficult. I’m onto the third version, but here are the first two:

But still neither of those will be the final. I’m working closely with the author on fixing it up to how he pictured it when he wrote the book.

Other than that, I’ve also been working on a design for this year’s Christmas card! I’ll be sending one out to anyone who asks, unless you normally get one from me anyway ;)

Anyway that’s about it for me for now, just wanted a mini update and to refresh this layout! Take care and have a great weekend <3
