Cloud Finished

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I started this yesterday as a splash page for my website. Now it just directs you here, so you didn’t miss much :p If you are checking this blog for the first time and were re-directed from Kina Ink, I’ll let you know that I’m planning on re-designing Kina Ink very soon. It will be more of a portfolio site though. My blog will still be here for doodles and journal entries, but most of the super personal or blog style content will be removed from Kina Ink. All of my tutorials and downloads will be back though, and hopefully with some new ones added as well.

In the meantime, feel free to check out my Deviantart gallery or my own archives for my artwork, old and new.

Also I do have both Twitter and Plurk. I use Plurk more often though. But if you want mini updates on my life, then you can check it out there.

New Temporary Office

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Brad & I have a lot of plans for the house. Some things have already been done, such as the carpeting all over. In every room but one, the carpeting was taken out and replaced with brad new Berber carpets. The one room that wasn’t redone was the master bedroom. We decided that we’d use one of the smaller sized bedrooms for our own room, and then convert the master bedroom into an office. This was great for me because it would mean I would have my own closet, lots of space, plus the en-suite bathroom. It would be a functional work area that I wouldn’t have to hang around in the kitchen all day to work in. (The common problem as you may have seen in previous weeks was that whenever I’m working in the kitchen, I end up eating and cooking a lot more than I end up working). So anyway, today I emptied a chunk of the master bedroom’s junk and put it aside to make room for us to paint. The image I linked here is an image of the guest room, which will serve as our temporary office.

Today I spent the better part of the afternoon setting up this temporary office. We had some leftover desks and furniture for a makeshift set of desks and shelving. I set up my docking station that I got with my laptop, so that I could set it in to charge when I needed it, but not be tied to that area if I wanted to doodle elsewhere. Also unpacked several boxes and art supplies and other goodies. I’m really liking it so far :) I might get attached to this spot, haha. The master bedroom will be a lot nicer though, we’re going to paint it and put in laminate flooring.

Not that this will matter to a lot of you, but I am really excited about this docking station. Brad added it to the order when he got my laptop online, and it was totally worth it. It plugs into the wall so I can charge my laptop without plugging in the actual laptop. It also adds 6 USB ports to my piddly 2 ports that the laptop has built in. 8 total ports! (I’m really happy about this if you can’t tell :P ) Also, even though the laptop is a tablet PC, I plugged in my external drawing Tablet (the black drawing pad there) so that I can draw from the desk when it’s docked. This is handy because the external one is a little more pressure sensitive, and easier on my back when I’m working at a desk and not from my lap. Also you can see that I plugged in a mouse… SO much better than using a track pad. The room is lacking when it comes to decoration, but its final purpose is as a guest room so I’m not too worried about that just yet!

In other news, I spotted this little guy today. I saw him hitch a ride on Dizzy when he came inside, and then hop onto the sliding glass door. I was able to grab him and safely deposit him back outside :)

Chapter 3 – Sketch 3

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

From Chapter 3 of Stanley Brambles and the Pirate’s Treasure. Our heroes and their families sit to dine in uncle Jack’s mansion, served by the ship repairman Benjamin, an old friend/crew mate of Jack’s who is an excellent cook! I used this image as a reference for the perspective and basic structure of the dining hall. This is only a sketch obviously, it will be up to the author whether or not it sees completion.

Slowly coming together..

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Very slowly. I spent a good 2-3 hour chunk on the water today, although the final version that you see isn’t exactly what I had spent all of that time on. I had one version, started blending it all together, then painted over that in frustration, then painted over THAT, and then went to take a nap. After napping a bit and getting a snack, I was less irritated with the water, and started a new way of colouring it, which helped a little, but then ended up ruining all of the water in the background. So then I did some mad scribbling and now it’s half abstract, half rendered form. Sigh. I guess I’m happy with it now, I know now that I’ll have to do a couple of water studies before I attempt something like this again!

Tamagotchi

Monday, September 28th, 2009

So.. I bought a Tamagotchi. I haven’t started him yet because I’m afraid I’ll get horribly addicted, like I always do. I’ve had every version of the Tamagotchi since the originals in 1996. Yeesh! That’s over 10 years! At least I don’t THINK I’ve missed any versions.. Since the newer Tamagotchi connections came out, I’ve had trouble keeping track. But I do have a couple of them and they connect and talk to each other and everything.. and wow, I am a nerd. I love never growing up <3

Foxes on Canoes

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

My next commission that I want to finish this week is a piece that I started a couple months ago for someone. Of course I kept putting it off, it’s a very involved piece. Two foxes on a canoe in a lake. The hard part so far was just getting the poses to be something I liked, and the faces to match in style. I’m really excited to do a full painted background though, that should be challenging! I hope it turns out alright. Here’s what I have so far!

Finished a commission! This one I’ve been working on forever, it’s about time I finished it. This was done for someone from Fur Affinity, named Hida. His character is the little blue dragon. I did another piece for him as well, which you can find in my gallery. I used Paint Tool Sai for this piece, and then added some finishing touches to it using Photoshop. That’s usually my favourite way to work. I’m not yet taking commissions again, because I still have 2 other full coloured + background pieces to work on, as well as some smaller ones. So it may be a little while, but if you are interested in commissioning me for something, just drop me a line at kina (at) kina-ink (dot) com.

Leek Potato Soup

Monday, September 21st, 2009

I had bought a leek and some other vegetables last week to cook a vegetable soup. But of course I only needed one leek, and the store had 3 grouped all together. I also had an entire bag of onions and potatoes that I didn’t want to go bad. I knew that there was such a thing as Potato Leek soup, so I searched it online and this is the first thing that popped up. I realized that this too was a blog kind of like my own, but much more professional! I tried her recipe for the soup and loved it <3 Brad said that it just tasted like liquefied mashed potatoes, but oh well. I love it.
